Cop Tasers 10-yr-old girl for resisting bedtime

The local police chief in Ozark, Arkansas is standing behind one of his officers who tasered a 10-year-old girl who was refusing to go to bed.

The bizarre story is laid out in a police incident report obtained by website The Smoking Gun.

Officer Dustin Bradshaw was called to the home by a woman complaining that her daughter was being unruly and refusing to go to sleep. Bradshaw wrote that when he arrived at the home, he found Kiara Medlock "balled up in (sic) the floor crying and screaming."

This child was over-tired and refused to go to bed and rest. This is a common place occurrence with children sometimes and parents should sometimes just let their children have the occassional temper tantrum.

Instead, the mother exacerbated the situation and called the police, which terrified this young girl, who, when the police officer entered the house, found her huddled in a ball, screaming and terrified. Then he put touched her body. Just digest and chew on this while and put yourself if the shoes of this child. So, of course, she became more agitated with a strange man in the house threatening to handcuff her and take her to jail, when all she needed was to go to bed and rest (even though she was refusing to do this, like children sometimes do).

So he tasers her and her own father says the cop has no business being a policeman because he can't handcuff a child and carry her to his squad car. Everyone in this story is missing the point. None of the adults acted appropriately to calm an upset child of divorce whose own father admits has emotional problems.

This is so appalling on so many levels, especially the police chief defending the undefendable actions of his officer. The police should have calmed the mother down and left the scene, not tasered the child.
