202180 He is not insane. He is saying what should be obvious.

Marketing just says "If you buy this car, then you will feel XYZ". And he identifies how people want to feel. How people want to feel is of course the primary driver of us all - not that we will not ultimately respond to the 'reality function' (which itself is linked to feelings - you will WORRY if you do not conform to reality, as you should).

And so the marketer, after identifying how people want to feel, then forms associative links into the marketing methods i.e. "this car = feel powerful"...or using more 'basic' power associations with the car.

And yes, it's manipulation, and many people don't respond to this kind of marketing because it is so obvious where the producer is coming from, so they react to these variables like they rationally should. They "laugh at the lie". People should get use to doing this.
