53-year-old Florida resident and Assistant U.S. Attorney John D.R. Atchison, who was being held in Michigan for being caught last month flying to Michigan to have sex with a 5-year-old girl, killed himself Friday in his cell - his second attempt. He previously tried to hang himself with a sheet but was caught before dying. He was facing three felonies, including crossing state lines with intent to have sex with someone under 12, which carries a sentence of 30 years to life in prison. The Pensacola attorney arranged the meeting online with a female Macomb County sheriff's detective working on a sex sting, acting as the girl's mother. Although it is believed to be suicide, "a thorough investigation is currently underway." Source: www.wxyz.com |
