The State Department cites Organ Transplantation and harvesting as an "Urban Legend", saying there is no evidence for it. on the subject by David J. Rothman, Bernard Schoenberg Professor of Social Medicine and History at Columbia University. Rothman says "in China officials profitably market organs of executed Chinese prisoners."

The issues of forced sterilization and forced abortion have also recently resurfaced in the Communist country. Despite withdrawing some funds for these policies, the Bush administration still bankrolls UNESCO projects which have had direct links to forced abortions and sterilizations.
