The latest tool in the "war on terrorism" is a new anti-terror manual titled "Terrorism & Security Awareness Orientation for State Employees". It opens with a quote attributed to Thomas Jefferson, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance....". Well said. The only problem is the manual's guidelines of a "terrorist" does everything it can to annihilate that freedom. The manual begins in typical fashion by evoking 911 to remind the reader that on September 11th all of our "lives changed forever". Good thing, I almost slipped into my pre-911 mindset! It goes on to tell the reader it's important to be armed with the "tools that you need, for we are all in this battle together and losing is not an option." So what are our tools? Well, one of the most helpful tools in the manual is a list of "terrorist organizations". The "foreign" terrorists are classics such as "Al-Queda", "Hamas", "Hizballah", and "Islamic Jihad". You know the bunch. The "domestic" terrorists, in like kind, are your typical groups such as "Property Rights Activists", "Religious Extremists", and "Street Gangs". You know the bunch... Right? Well then, it's time you learned. The terrorists "goals" are to "create an atmosphere of anxiety amongst the public", "undermine confidence in the government", and "influence government or social policy". So, as it turns out, those darn property rights activists are terrorists! The loving patriotic manual also details a wonderful list of "terrorist tools". You might want to be on the look out if you see anyone carrying these, and be sure to report their suspicious activity! So how do you know if you've found a terrorist? Well, "they may have one or more of the following items in their possession": # "sketch pads or notebooks" # "maps or charts" # "still or video camera" # "hand held tape recorder" # "binoculars" So there you have it! And remember now, the price of freedom is eternal vigilance! |
