Sunrise resident Matthew Lawson received a $125,000 settlement after filing a federal lawsuit accusing three Davie officers of brutality when they arrested him without cause three years ago. Lawson, 21, said officers Curtis Schock, Steve Ricker and Paul Vardakis punched and kicked him "countless times" on his face, head and body, causing him to lose a tooth. His lawsuit, filed last year, says the officers shocked him several times with a Taser; used a K-9 to bite him; and forced him to place his hands on the scalding hood of a patrol car. Read More |
