Honor Student Jailed for Missing Too Much School, Works Multiple Jobs To Support Her Younger Sister (InformationLiberation)
Ever since seventeen year old Diane Tran's parents divorced, she's had to work two jobs to support her little sister while simultaneously going to high school.

She dared to miss a day of school after a Texas judge "warned" her not to, and so the judge ordered her jailed.

CBS Atlanta reports:

"If you let one run loose, what are you gonna' do with the rest of 'em?," said Judge Lanny Moriarty. "Let them go too? A little stay in the jail for one night is not a death sentence."

[...]The judge admitted that he wanted to make an example of the teen.

Sounds like the words of a slave master.

We've said many times public schools are just like jails, I guess this judge figured let's just throw out the middle man and jail students directly.

Cases like this are par for the course in Texas. For years now, cops in Texas schools have been writing tickets, yes tickets, anywhere from $250-$500 to students as young as six years old for the "crime" of "misbehaving in school."

Of course, it's nothing more than a revenue raising scam, but that's what passes now for getting a public "education."

To think evil libertarians say we could do without such cherished institutions!
