Mexico: Businessman Who Reported Police Crimes Found Killed

A man thought to be a businessman who accused 10 federal polices officers of kidnapping and extortion in September 2011 was killed Thursday night in his home in Juárez.

Officials identified the victim as Eligio Ibarra Amador, 62, but they could not confirm that he is the one who reported the federal police officers.

But Gustavo De la Rosa Hickerson, the ombudsman in Juárez for the Chihuahua state's human-rights commission, said the victim was the businessman who brought the accusations against the officers.

Ibarra was found in his home in the Margaritas neighborhood in the northern part of the city. Officials said 70 percent of his body had been burned.
