Fired Dallas Officer Found Not Guilty After Accuser Deported

A jury found a fired Dallas police officer not guilty of a pair of misdemeanors Monday after the alleged victim, who has been deported, did not show up for court.

Rene Villanueva, 37, was accused of using excessive force to arrest a drunken driver who hit a Dallas County sheriff’s deputy with his pickup in November 2013. Villanueva was indicted on assault and official oppression charges — class A misdemeanors — for the incident in March. Dallas Police Chief David Brown quickly fired him and released a dashcam video of the arrest, which did not fully back up his story.
