"Once you start dressing an equipping people like an occupying army, they start acting like one." Bill Maher criticizes the police arming themselves to the teeth, though he reveals he's under the delusion without cops the world would be "like the movie 'The Purge' every night." In reality, the state's monopoly on protection services creates more crime than it prevents, the average cop commits more rights violations on a daily basis than a career criminal, yet they're immune from prosecution due to their magical badges. A free market in protection services would create a much safer society, one in which the needs of consumers are actually met, rather than a monopolist protection racket where costumed bureaucrats act as judge, jury, and executioner.
