Cop Punches Woman in the Face Twice, Department Says It's 'Defensible'

by Robby Soave

A Superior, Wisconsin police officer slammed an uncooperative woman against the hood of a squad car, slapped her an hit her twice in the face with his closed fist — and an attorney for his department said the brutal attack was “defensible.”

What happened between Officer George Gothner and Natasha Lancour on the night of Jan. 5 in a bar parking lot was captured by a dashboard camera. Police were apparently called to the scene because of a fight between two men, who were taken away by other officers. Then, Gothner can be seen attempting to arrest Lancour. He throws her against the hood of the squad car, slaps her and bashes her face against it. When Lancour recoils, Gothner administers two closed-fist punches to her face.

Lancour is a five-foot-tall black woman. She claimed her race was a factor in how police decided to treat her, according to Northland’s News Center.

98209 I hate police brutality as much as you do. In this case, she was resisting. Fair is fair. Not all cops are bad and I def. see the trend in the use of force but every now and then, maybe you ought to give a positive police story. I'm not talking about cops rescuing kitties from a tree but something worthwhile. On the whole, cops are not our enemies and I believe in law and order which requires them. At the same time, I believe that the service you are providing is an important one. Who will watch the watchers. You will.

I read "Listen Little Man" years ago and it too made a big impact on me. I know somewhat of what you're thinking.

Just bear in mind that there are a lot of crazy people out there and these police risk their lives daily. Granted, some are power mad and get off on control but I suspect others idealistically believe in their civic duty.

17444 Bull, police officers have the safest job and they do not risk their lives every day. Practically all of them are bullies looking for trouble. Being Law and Order means being for big government.

"and these police risk their lives daily."

No, they don't. Do little research, and you won't find them even in the top 10 most dangerous professions. Cab driver and bartender risk their lives more than police.

Did you ever notice that whenever there's a shooting in a school, "the authorities" always "establish the perimeter. They actually enter the school with weapons drawn only when it becomes known that the suspect has shot himself or was shot by civilians. Or, and they are also not afraid to enter the school and point their guns at the children as part of drill, there were plenty reports of that from different places.

When "Officer's safety is paramount", you don't "risk your life every day".

You can walk into your local PD and you will see the pictures of the officers who died at the job. But if you actually find out the details, you will find that they died from their own reckless driving, from heart attacks, and such. You are unlikely to find even one who actually died why risking his life.
