Whoever said crime doesn't pay was never a police officer. In this case out of Franklin, Tennessee, veteran police officer Brent Rose who serves as a DUI course instructor for the Franklin police department was found passed out drunk in his car outside a bar with his car's engine running, which is a crime in Tennessee regardless of whether or not he actually drove. For his part, Rose says he "doesn't remember" what happened before he passed out, though he said he'd "imagine" he did drive to the bar. When two police arrived to find Rose passed out in the bar's parking lot, they chose not to give him any field sobriety tests, nor charge him with any crime as they would any other citizen. Instead, they let him call a friend to pick him up and let him off scot-free. When his ride arrived, he reportedly "'fell face first' into some shrubbery when he stood up from a curb," the Tennessean reports. After news of the incident got out, rather than face any serious punishment, Rose was simply stripped of his position as a DUI course instructor, got a minor five day suspension without pay, and was made to sign a "Last Chance Agreement," saying next time he slips up he'll be fired. This despite the fact he was previously suspended in 2005 for crashing his car while drunk and failing to report the incident, which is required by law. Incidentally, 2005 was the year he became a certified DUI course instructor. One would think the only DUI instruction officer Brent Rose is qualified to teach is how to commit DUIs and get away with them.
