Chris | InformationLiberation

After harassing a man for maybe-possibly smoking outside, a female cop tickets him instead for loitering out of spite because he wouldn't play her stupid game. Video via LiveLeak.

I realize this video is a con, but, it made me laugh.

when did Mormons start hiring women, to fulfill law enforcement positions?" Utah" is to "Mormon" as "Vatican City" is to "Catholic;" (and, all that both those 2 imperialist religions entail...)

71219 There are an unbelievable number of UTA cops whenever you get anywhere near the light rails stations or tracks.
Yesterday they announced that ridership on the new track is only a small fraction of what was projected.
They just opened one two blocks from my house. I will never use it, because COPS GIVE ME THE CREEPS. I've warned my teenage son to stay far away from the cop-circus they have built and operate.
Any place that needs that many thugs to patrol it is inherently unsafe.
LS: You know nothing of Salt Lake City. The rest of the state is mostly Mormon dominated. Salt Lake has a non-mormon majority. ie:They started issuing gay-marriage licenses at a record pace this week.

71219 When I first heard the term "Porc-fest", I thought they meant "Pork-fest" and thought they were talking about SLC light-rail.

75145 I realize this will sound controversial at least, but still, here's an alternative version of the events.

The law about loitering is aimed at gangs, in fact if you search in Utah code for loitering, all findings will have the word "gang " nearby. So the goal is to have the means to prevent gangs' gatherings.

The cop sees a man she recalls as possible street gang member, hanging around in the familiar place. She comes to him with false pretense, "are you smoking", then she successfully manipulates him into giving her his ID (which he didn't have to do. In fact, as soon as he heard these monkey games about "you are not truthful with me", you should know that the cop does not have enough material for arrest, and is desperately trying to gather it by manipulating you into talking. Leave while you still can.). Then she runs his ID, and indeed is told that the guy already has history. With this info, her RS that this is indeed gang gathering is solid enough for writing trespass warning and then citation for loitering.

I repeat, the above is only a fantasy scenario, but I think it's not impossible scenario. If I'm not mistaken the guy never said in the video that he was actually waiting for the bus at that bus stop.

2412 You don't have to kiss ass, but you also don't have to be a DICKHEAD back to them when they are that way with YOU.

In fact, cops act like that as a tactic of manipulation to try to GET YOU to respond.

DON'T TAKE THAT BAIT NEXT TIME.

Your job is to be CORDIAL, and KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.
And sue them when they ILLEGALLY DETAIN you.

71219 "your job is to be cordial" ?.
Last time I checked, a job is a paid, voluntary sort of arrangement. While I agree that it is better to not let anyone provoke you, cordiality sounds a little too much like ass-kissing.
My option of choice is to boycott light rail, and any other place that employs so many costumed "heroes".

68255 Re. being cordial. My experience was the opposite. The cops take any politeness as weakness, and they actively play that card. "You are being disrespectful", "you are not cooperating" etc. Firm hostile response often gets their tail between the legs very quickly, primarily because they are not prepared / not trained for that. There was a video couple of months ago, where the guy who walked into a PD to make inquiry, was harassed by two cops. The cops managed to say only 1-2 words before being showered with vicious verbal attack where numerous "fuck you assholes" and such constituted about 80% of the speech. Cops' retreat was immediate.

2412 I still stand behind my "cordial" approach... IF you're forced to speak at all. I've never had an issue and have talked my way out of several encounters.

Well my FULL cop approach would be thusly:

1) KNOW YOUR RIGHTS, but don't assert them like an asshole: "I'm using my 5th amendment right to silence, PIG!" ya know...

2) NEVER speak to police. (Youtube awesome vids) (Unless you're totally innocent and it's a nice day and you feel like you can talk your way out)

3) If you HAVE to answer, be polite - speak proper english - act like you're in a courtroom - or if you sense a good mood - be a potential friend

4) RECORD EVERYTHING.

I wouldn't take a chance screaming at some insecure-kid-turned-cop --- that's just not intelligent.

@71219, you're right. I haven't been in to Utah in 20 years, however, their issuing of same-sex marriage license is part of a much larger agenda, and, doesn't speak to tolerance (in my view).

@2412, people tend to mirror the people in front of them. If the man in the video wasn't smoking, then, the assertion was likely processed as "complete nonsense;" which is, what he reflected back at the officer.

204228 I agree with the most of these, it's a messed up society we live in where cops abuse their power, unfortunately here in lame utah, if they ask for ID you post present it to them, talk about some rights we have, eh?

17351 It's a shame we live in a world full of assholes. This guy could answer the question and be on his way but no.
These cops are here for you as well as everyone else. It's funny how the same people that fought for this law because they wanted the right to breath clean air are giving the police a hard time for trying to enforce the law.
I wonder if I followed you away from this scene and started beating the shit out of you for being a dick would you call for help? who would you call?
