Hawthorne, CA Police Arrest Man for Filming Raid, Shoot his Dog in Front of Him

Chris | InformationLiberation

In this shocking video out of Hawthorne, California, police arrest a man for videotaping a SWAT team barricade, then shoot and kill his dog when it comes to his rescue.

The dog is seen flailing around as his life is drained from him thanks to the officers' actions.

It should be noted filming police is entirely legal, the cops falsely charged the man with "obstruction" as a pretext to falsely arrest him, therefor it's irrelevant the dog threatened the officers, as the cops consciously and cynically chose to commit a false arrest because they didn't feel comfortable with him videotaping.

From CBS LA:
Attorney Michael Gulden said his client Leon Rosby was watching and taking video of the Hawthorne SWAT team when police claimed Rosby was obstructing officers during the barricade.

Rosby is seen in video footage walking with the dog – which appeared to be a Rottweiler – near several patrol cars to capture the scene on his phone.

After an exchange with nearby officers, Rosby is heard saying the words, “civil rights violation” before returning the dog to his vehicle.

As officers begin to proceed toward Rosby, he also begins walking in the direction of the officers and is then taken into custody without any further exchange.

While Rosby is handcuffed, the dog is seen escaping from the vehicle through an open rear window and then approaching the officers while barking.

When one officer motions toward the animal, the dog is seen jumping up and toward the officer, at which point four shots were fired, according to Gulden.
Update: Here's video from Mr. Rosby explaining how the incident went down:

108240 This situation is horrible!!!! The man didn't break any laws, didn't resist at any time!!!!! The cop did seem react in defense but the shooting the dog is plain evil especially when no crime was committed.
But just because he didn't break any laws doesn't mean he didn't push and antagonize the cops to provoke this situation. Anyone with Amy sense would've left good enough alone and maybe the poor dog who was just doing his job would still be alive.
phx much better than hawthorn pigs

89143 Dog did not attack cops. That was warning. Cops illegally handcuffed his owner without checking if dog is secure?!?! (even peole filming it from further away were asking whyt will happen when dog will get out). Owner was not resisting yet at 3:00 cop grabs violently his neck for no reason. That was THE REASON for dog getting out of the car. then on the pavement confronted by relaxed owner dog went to sniffing mode, not aggressive at all. Stupid cop trid to reach his hand towards dogs head. Why?!?!?!? dog warned him. No touch. Cop didnt understand and tried to touch diogs head again. Dow warned him again a bit louder, no bite only warning and slight jump. Maybe he touched him with pawns. If dog would want to attask he would bite the cops neck sooner thne he would be able to back way.

7035 The entire story with quotes from neighbors can be found in other places. He was detained and charged with obstruction of justice for not turning down his radio, which was interfering with police listening devices on their original call. Witnesses say he shouted "It's my ******* radio." At that point, he was approached, and detained/taken into custody. Did the police over react with the dog? Absolutely. Is the dog owner free of blame in the situation? Absolutely not.

108238 Just awful... You f'ing pig! It's okay there are still good cops out there just the other day one helped give birth on the side of the road... That dog was just protecting his owner by barking he was scared!!!! God my cat would do the same thing! Then to let it suffer!!! There were other tactics have the owner take control of the dog then settle differences. Don't shoot in front of a crowd of people and end up on the Internet and lose your job and a innocent dog owner dogless. Idiot.

68234 Officer Jeffrey Salmon shot the dog. Here is a video of the man whose dog was shot describing the event.

This officer was previously involved in a police corruption and brutality lawsuit against the Hawthorne Police Department which resulted in a $1,000,000 settlement (taxpayer money).

The article that follows reads: "The Hawthorne Police Department paid One Million Dollars to a Settle Lawsuit in which it was alleged a man was kicked in the face while handcuffed and then falsely prosecuted along with his wife to cover up the brutality. Evidence the plaintiffs were prepared to present at trial included a photograph of an officer appearing to kick the handcuffed plaintiff in the face and a surveillance video allegedly depicting officers high-fiving each other as the injured plaintiff suffered from a broken jaw."

68234 Officer Scott Swain, as posted in #74199 previously WAS NOT the officer who shot the dog. Scott Swain is a PR Officer for the department.

See #68234 above about Officer Jeffrey Salmon. This is the officer responsible and he's a piece of shit bad cop.

7072 I'm 58 and when I was growing up, cops would go their entire 30 yr carreers never even DRAWING the weapon. All the cops I knew would have, number one, known the law and number two, seen the size of the dog and had the owner roll the windows up because any one with common sense would know the dog would get upset and jump out. If they were stupid enough to let the dog jump out it would not end up with the dog shot, they COULD have uncuffed the owner and let him put the dog back in the car. Crimes against citizens like this by STUPID COPS have made me lose ALL respect for cops completely to the point if I am stopped anywhere any reason, I inform them that I do NOT answer ANY police questions no maqtter how seemingly innocent EVER!!!! THEY MUST EARN MY RESPECT NOW!!!

108238 Nope wouldn't have shot the dog.. I'd have the owner restrain his property... Legally that dog is property. The police department is going to lose a lot of money and so will the citizens "taxpayers" bc of one dumbass that shot a dog.

50131 174141 Clearly does not have a brain at all. It's not the dog owners fault the dog died. The dog clearly saw his owner being arrested and assumed he was in "danger".So of course the dog is going to jump to them to see if he was alright. It's just in their nature if they dogs seeing a threat occurring to the owner. You might as well say it was the dog's fault for getting shot because he wanted to help his owner if you're going to use that stupid logic of yours.

Putting all that aside,I really wish the police had a stricter policy on who should be in the police force. They shouldn't just let ANYBODY be a police cop as long as they meet standards. They should have better judgement on who they are recruiting for the police force.I don't want to be surrounded by cops who would just arrest me or shoot me on a whim just because I'm just walking and just seemed "Suspicious" or "threatening".
