Judge Caught Driving Drunk Allowed To Drive Home, Avoids DUI Charges

Stopped at a license check last month, a man in a red truck handed over his license and said his name was “Judge Simms.”

After he registered 0.083 in a roadside breath test, Bibb County Judge Howard Simms admitted that he’d had a couple of drinks, but he said he wasn’t impaired. He added “something to the effect of ... I don’t need this,” according to statements of deputies involved in the traffic stop.

Two deputies -- Capt. Alden Washington and Sgt. Bruce Jordan -- face reprimands and unpaid suspensions for their actions at the Sept. 22 checkpoint on Lamar Road, Sheriff Jerry Modena said at a Thursday news conference.

Washington will receive five days of unpaid suspension, serve a 90-day probation and be sent to a 16-hour course on professional ethics training.

Jordan will receive three days of unpaid suspension, serve a 90-day probation and will be reassigned from a specialized sheriff’s office traffic unit to regular patrol operations.

Deputy Robert Scarborough, who was also at the checkpoint, was not involved in the decision to allow Simms to leave, and he was not disciplined, Modena said.

Simms, a Superior Court judge and former district attorney, released a statement Sept. 25 saying he was entering an in-patient alcohol addiction treatment facility. The judge has not been charged with DUI.

As hypocritical as this whole incident is, the fact is different people handle alcohol differently. Reckless driving which endangers other people is criminal, but if you can handle alcohol and drive responsibly you should not be shaken down by costumed extortionists.

Just the other day in Missouri, a former highway patrolman turned himself in for molesting 3 children. He was released on $5,000 bond.

In San Luis Obispo, judge Michael Duffy lets DUI Highway Patrol Captains and drunken firefighters go for assault(skull cracking). He got a break when he got his dui so he helps out civil employees when they're in his court.

Here in Tiffin, Ohio we have a Judge who regularly gets intoxicated at a resturant/Bar on his way home from handing out sentences to regular citizens charged with DUI. This is a regular occurence. He even brags to the bartender with lines like " I'm the judge , what can they do". This same judge feels he has the right to take peoples Right to Bear Arms away for possession of marijuana. Calls it Permanent Weapons Disability.

This is an ongoing problem in this town. The judge before him was drunk all the time, even on the bench. He was also witnessed by undercover cops purchasing cocaine at a local bar. The cops did nothing. When I asked one cop who was a friend of mine why? He said "because he's a judge, but just wait until he's not on the bench anymore." Really? Why???

Tis just screams " It's not the crime, it's getting caught" which these judges seem to have immunity from. Evidently none of the police in this town have enough balls to do what is right. So I've decided to film this judge with hidden cameras I purchased just for this. Justice will be done.
