Cop Claims Teen Assaulted Him, Video Shows He Assaulted Teen

Chris | InformationLiberation

Prince George's County, Maryland police officer Corporal Donald Taylor, a 13-year-veteran, claimed that after catching up to an aggressive youth who swung at him and began to flee, the youth reached for his gun, at which point he fired his gun at the youth in self defense. Despite this tale, newly released surveillance footage obtained by Fox 5 News shows the officer running up behind the youth, then smashing him in the head with his gun in a surprise attack, which triggered his gun to fire in the process.

The youth, 19-year-old Ryan Dorm, "spent about four months in jail before prosecutors dropped the charges against him," NBC Washington reports. Note, Dorm's lawyer says the police got this video two days after Dorm's arrest, yet they made him rot in jail for four months nonetheless.
"Well, the video contradicts what the officer originally wrote in his charging documents,” said Dorm’s lawyer, Jimmy Bell. “What it shows is that my client didn't lie. They print my client is a criminal. They put his face on television saying he committed these crimes, and he didn't."

Taylor was charged with second-degree assault last month.

Dorm and his lawyer filed a $10 million lawsuit against the police department and Taylor.
Unfortunately, as is the norm in these cases, police will simply rob taxpayers to pay a settlement. As to the cop's punishment, last we heard back in August of this year, he was on "administrative leave" with pay for the past six months. The old saying, "crime doesn't pay," doesn't apply if you're a police officer.

6669 Everybody saying he should sue the police department must not realize that THEY themselves will be the ones footing the bill. The department will simply use taxpayer money to pay off the settlement. They will then ask for more funding because of the $10m ''hit'' they take.

159245 If you can't deal with the dregs of society without beating them up or lieing about it to cover your own misdeeds, don't VOLUNTARILY join the force.

97102 Why has this cop *NOT* been criminally charged?

18 USC 242 Deprivation of Rights Under Color of Law.

Fired? PFFT! He should be facing hard time in federal PMITA prison.

12131 The cop is guilty of two things.
Lying about why he gun was discharged and Assault.

Yes something happened before the clip we see here. Im not saying the kid did not deserve to be arested but surely you can see he is giving up.

He could have killed the kid with the strike to the head with the pistol.

76169 I appreciate the role that police play in our society. But I reject this idea that they are always justified because their job is a tough one. The public trusted this guy to uphold the law. But he not only assaulted someone, he lied and let the person he hit go to jail. Where I come from, that's just not right.

76102 @JAS the issue isn't so much about hating all cops but the fact that the officer assaulted and could have killed the man. He ran up on somebody who was walking and pistol whipped him, accidentally discharging his weapon in the process. what if the bullet had went into the mans head? the officer assaulted someone, almost killed him, then lied about it taking away 4 months of life by keeping him jailed.

198245 Why does this happen? These cops should be trained better or something like that. Traevon Martin and now this. I call bullshit.

6858 The officer who struck the teen should be fired and face assault charges. The cops who saw the video and did nothing should also lose their jobs and prosecuted for obstruction of justice.

7494 So depressing. We need some more of those real hero cop stories to drown out the endless sea of corruption present in the law enforcement field. What's the point of law if those enforcing it abuse the rules and go so far out of line?

129161 The policeman is stupid first of all for having his trigger finger inside the trigger guard while attacking the person. He could have hit an innocent bystander in the process. I am not arguing about what happened before this video tape.

128239 To Anonymous 108171, this has everything to do with the kid's color. That's why you read this article (and cared enough to comment on it), and that's why he has a CIVIL RIGHTS attorney defending him. So, what was the point you were trying to make anyways?
To Anonymous 67212, try being white in many parts of a place like Prince George's on a cold night. I dare you. It is a VERY intimidating place to be. Although not all cops are bad, given the types of things that go on there that I've seen myself (rented a place there myself for a bit), I can say this is an isolated incident and the video most likely does not illustrate the full story. The cop wouldn't just attack a guy for no good reason.
By illustrating the cop as a racist criminal, "'Crime doesn't pay..."" this website illustrates its absurd bias.

63228 Just for reference purposes, would be nice to include this "victim's" rap sheet. Officer might have had prior experience with this "gentleman."

7778 Lol, I love he stutters at 'snacks'

"We went to get some... ehhh... snacks. Yeh, my buddy was wearing a ski-mask, so what?" XD

Don't get me wrong, the cop a racist asshole, but just watch the story assuming that they went to rob the gas-station and it turns hilarious XD
