71238 7436 hit the point. America worked and suffered and held a stance on moral issues to earn the benefits we hold.

Voting for congressman or presidents that start wars in the name of the poor and suffering in other countries is not compassion. Secondly it does no service to those poor and suffering. It simply creates another kind (and usually more) of the poor and suffering. The people in those countries did not "earn their stripes" so to speak.

They can not hold the tremendous benefits we do because they are simply not there yet. There is no possibility that any of the countries we have "helped" through war and overthrows will be somehow equal to us on a civil rights and compassion benefit basis because of our "help". They must earn it, plain and simple. In a general sense, we all, as individuals and societies, get back exactly what is deserved.

99249 I agree, there is great joy in helping people and no joy in being forced to help people.

17365 Never did get why otherwise intelligent people don't outgrow libertarianism before they get out of their teen years. Selfish dickishness a philosophy does not make. This is just an excuse for rich people to ignore the needs of society and voluntarily do much less.

98233 what a silly statement when 10% of the population sucks up 90% of the income is it any surprise that there are a lot of poor and almost poor folks???!!!???

76108 Lets put this on a jewelers balance scale and weight it out. On one side we have the right to life. On the other side we have the right to keep one's wealth. It is obvious which side has more weight. The right to life is a superior right. the right to own things is an inferior right.
So when food, shelter and medical care are concerned they always trump the rights of ownership of wealth.
Can you get that message?

1410 typical "libertarian" Randian viewpoint. I don't see him working in soup kitchens, giving away his wealth, not spending thousands on his suits...yes we are a community...a national community. Work to cut defense waste and billions of subsidies to the wealthy oil companies who are polluting and instead use that money to repair our infrastructure, create a WPA type system of jobs with meaning.

1232 I dont understand... Is he saying the government gives away money and then forces people at gunpoint to take it??? That makes no sense...

Voting a government in that treats people equally and helps the poor IS absolutely compassionate. A government is meant to REPRESENT peoples interests and values. If you don't vote someone in to tax some of that motherfuckers 300 million dollar CEO bonus then no one goddamn will, no one needs that much money.
