Quotes From Lincoln That We Never Hear

by Laurence Vance, LRC Blog

Not only are there quotes from the Declaration of Independence that we never hear, here are some quotes from Lincoln that we never hear:
This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it.

Any people anywhere, being inclined and having the power, have the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suits them better. This is a most sacred right--a right, which we hope and believe, is to liberate the world. Nor is this right confined to cases in which the whole people of an existing government may choose to exercise it. Any portion of such people that can, may revolutionize, and make their own, of so much territory as they inhabit.

147126 Yeah, you are aware that during the Civil War, the South felt they were exactly like both of these quotes? As in, they felt like they "[had] the right to rise up, and shake off the existing government, and form a new one that suit[ed] them better."

I bet Lincoln said this all the time while he was busy not respecting that supposed "right" we have at all.

9922 Um... guys. It's not that he didn't respect the south being able to do that. It's just that, well, the south lost the war. The Civil War was more of a revolutionary style war than the American Revolutionary War.
