Inconvenient truth for Al Gore as his North Pole sums don't add up

There are many kinds of truth. Al Gore was poleaxed by an inconvenient one yesterday.

The former US Vice-President, who became an unlikely figurehead for the green movement after narrating the Oscar-winning documentary An Inconvenient Truth, became entangled in a new climate change “spin” row.

Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years.

In his speech, Mr Gore told the conference: “These figures are fresh. Some of the models suggest to Dr [Wieslav] Maslowski that there is a 75 per cent chance that the entire north polar ice cap, during the summer months, could be completely ice-free within five to seven years.”

However, the climatologist whose work Mr Gore was relying upon dropped the former Vice-President in the water with an icy blast.

“It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at,” Dr Maslowski said. “I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this.”

Mr Gore’s office later admitted that the 75 per cent figure was one used by Dr Maslowksi as a “ballpark figure” several years ago in a conversation with Mr Gore.

The embarrassing error cast another shadow over the conference after the controversy over the hacked e-mails from the University of East Anglia’s Climate Research Unit, which appeared to suggest that scientists had manipulated data to strengthen their argument that human activities were causing global warming.

Mr Gore is not the only titan of the world stage finding Copenhagen to be a tricky deal.

World leaders — with Gordon Brown arriving tonight in the vanguard — are facing the humiliating prospect of having little of substance to sign on Friday, when they are supposed to be clinching an historic deal.

Meanwhile, five hours of negotiating time were lost yesterday when developing countries walked out in protest over the lack of progress on their demand for legally binding emissions targets from rich nations. The move underlined the distrust between rich and poor countries over the proposed legal framework for the deal.

Last night key elements of the proposed deal were unravelling. British officials said they were no longer confident that it would contain specific commitments from individual countries on payments to a global fund to help poor nations to adapt to climate change while the draft text on protecting rainforests has also been weakened.

Even the long-term target of ending net deforestation by 2030 has been placed in square brackets, meaning that the date could be deferred. An international monitoring system to identify illegal logging is now described in the text as optional, where before it was compulsory. Negotiators are also unable to agree on a date for a global peak in greenhouse emissions.

Perhaps Mr Gore had felt the need to gild the lily to buttress resolve. But his speech was roundly criticised by members of the climate science community. “This is an exaggeration that opens the science up to criticism from sceptics,” Professor Jim Overland, a leading oceanographer at the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration said.

“You really don’t need to exaggerate the changes in the Arctic.”

Others said that, even if quoted correctly, Dr Maslowski’s six-year projection for near-ice-free conditions is at the extreme end of the scale. Most climate scientists agree that a 20 to 30-year timescale is more likely for the near-disappearance of sea ice.

“Maslowski’s work is very well respected, but he’s a bit out on a limb,” said Professor Peter Wadhams, a specialist in ocean physics at the University of Cambridge.

Dr Maslowki, who works at the US Naval Postgraduate School in California, said that his latest results give a six-year projection for the melting of 80 per cent of the ice, but he said he expects some ice to remain beyond 2020.

He added: “I was very explicit that we were talking about near-ice-free conditions and not completely ice-free conditions in the northern ocean. I would never try to estimate likelihood at anything as exact as this,” he said. “It’s unclear to me how this figure was arrived at, based on the information I provided to Al Gore’s office.”

Richard Lindzen, a climate scientist at the Massachusets Institute of Technology who does not believe that global warming is largely caused by man, said: “He’s just extrapolated from 2007, when there was a big retreat, and got zero.”

7220 I'm a little confused. I thought Gore canceled his trip to Copenhagen?

"Mr Gore, speaking at the Copenhagen climate change summit, stated the latest research showed that the Arctic could be completely ice-free in five years."

I'm not trying to be a supporter, I'm just pointing out something that stuck out. I believe Al gore is one of the biggest liars on the planet.

88106 As all the worlds leaders turn up in Copenhagen and may sign something "historic" anyway... let me repost some of Henry Kissingers B.S.:
"Today Americans would be outraged if U.N. troops entered Los Angeles to restore order; tomorrow they will be grateful! This is especially true if they were told there was an outside threat from beyond whether real or promulgated, that threatened our very existence. It is then that all peoples of the world will pledge with world leaders to deliver them from this evil. The one thing every man fears is the unknown. When presented with this scenario, individual rights will be willingly relinquished for the guarantee of their well being granted to them by their world government."

- Henry Kissinger, in an address to the Bilderberger meeting at Evian, France, May 21, 1992.

Was Nobel Peace Prize(?) winner, Henry Kissinger, alluding to International terrorism?, Climate change?, or a Pandemic disease? - take your pick, they all fit the bill.

Don't worry it's just payrolled shills, it's a sign we're doing something right! ;)

Gore canceled a private speech which had tickets selling for $1200 a pop, he still went to dopenhagen to fearmonger though, as one headline read, "Gore Leaves Comfort Of 20-Bedroom Power Guzzling Mansion To Fearmonger About Polar Ice Caps"

"whether real or promulgated"

That just about sums it up, if there is no real threat they will just make it up, maybe next it will be aliens! Hehe, that is definitely a card they have on the table, just watch any idiotic alien movie where aliens invade and the world rallies against them by forming some world empire. No doubt it always works out for the best!

If I were Al Gore I would jump into my flying-saucer emmidiately.
Maybe on his planet 2+2=5, but on earth it equals 4.
That is probably why his formulas don't work.
Even his shills can't seem to add up properly either, suppose they're Alien too or maybe they get a big fat pay packet at the end of the week, perhaps they should get on-board as well.
Got to hand it to him though, if it wasn't for his lies we would never have known the truth.

8196 You know, this planet of ours has a "wobble", axial tilt, that has a truly massive impact upon our climate, including glaciation. Precession.

I did about three months research on this in conjunction with the data from the Japanese Solar Science satellite programme Hinode. This science programme has been invaluable, but, suspiciously the Hinode Science Project is shut down for computer maintenance (Inconvenient to have good information available while Copenhagen is doing its thing for OWG)

However, at the end of three months I was a confirmed unbeliever in the new green religion, which knowledge had shown to be BS (Bullshit, or Banker Scam-whichever is your preference).

Okay, the science. The place to start is here:

The eccentricity of the orbit and how this relates to the glaciation cycles is obvious after reading the text. What is not quite so obvious is the effect of the axial tilt: which at the time of doing this research (Approx 3 years ago) was at 24 degrees and counting. I wish I could find the disc I put it all on, but there are thousands of the things all over the place. Nvm. It stands to reason that these processes are by nature mechanical, which science dictates needs a counter reaction to maintain system stability. Therefore as the tilt increases warming at the North polar region, so it decreases warming at the southern polar region. The validity of this may be found in the fact that the Ice is documented to be increasing at the south polar region as we speak, and as the apparatchiks try to steal the world at Copenhagen.

This is further complicated by the disparity between the time periods between/of the axial precession and the orbital oscillations. These will provide for Full and mini ice ages as well as the odd warming as in the middle ages.

The Hinode data showed a sun that had become quiescent. The predicted activity for cycle 21(?) did not happen which will inevitably reduce solar output.

This science is solid. Proven by constant observation and meticulous peer review. At the time I was satisfied for myself that the AGW lobby were cranks: Back then the NWO occultists using AGW as the vehicle for the power grab was in the realm of speculation. It is only recently that the truth of this theory has been proven. Though to be honest Prince Charles' constant repetion of the hype and scaremongering should have been considered as conclusive of itself.

Unlike many non believers I do believe in recycling materials, and am therefore hugely disappointed that our carefully sorted waste is sent to China and India as landfill. It is a betrayal of trust as is the Copenhagen heist. But then, what is being done globally by the corrupted political establishment is both a betrayal as well as anti-human.

Likewise I believe the time has come to excercise restraint re: reproduction. But this is best achieved by financial rewards for having less children. Then there still remains choice.

Orwell wrote well. He placed on paper the type of society that was being engineered. People must now tear down the barriers and decide what sort of world we want to live in. It is not an easy task. We absorb prejudice from the cradle to the grave. We place this burden upon our children to carry too. Why?

The science exists to power our homes without the need for huge nuclear power generating stations. Induction.

The same technology, discovered a hundred years ago, can, thanks to modern materials technology be used to power cars and trains and so on. It is not on offer unless you build it yourself. Why?

Well, the reasons why are clear: Such technology deployed for the common good would reduce corporate power.

Thanks to the internet the confines of the corporatist prison in which survive in order to consume are there to see. Along with the media supported illusions that support the occultists world structure so defined.

Do any of us want this kind of surreal world where the super rich indulge any and every vice imaginable in the manner befitting their god?

It is soon going to be time to decide.

Very soon.

72158 For people in the states (I can't speak for the UK) there is an internet petition to sign called the "Manhattan Declaration" and focuses on three main issues. Basically it's a statement saying that we are not going to be detered on these issues, and we will engage in civil disobedience if necessary: forcing Catholic/Christian hospitals into performing abortions; forcing us to recognize marriages other than between men and women; our right to religious freedom. This is close to two-weeks old and has almost 300,000 signatures. I'm sure non-Christians can sign as well...
