posted 04/03/2013, 1:11 AM (TheNewspaper) [Category: Tyranny/Police State] A motorist cannot have his car taken to a border station to be x-rayed based on a window tint violation, a federal judge ruled on Friday. US District Judge Richard J. Arcara allowed a lawsuit to proceed against the Niagara County, New York Sheriff's Department in the wake of an April 28, 2009 traffic stop where motorists who had done nothing wrong were detained by police for more than three hours.
Thaddeus Rougier was traveling to Canada with Beverly Henry in a 1995 Lexus carrying... (more) |

BROOKLYN (CN) - NYPD officers pepper-sprayed three little children, including 2-year- and 5-month old babies, because they thought the kids' mom jumped a subway fare, the family claims in court.
Marilyn Taylor sued New York City, the NYPD and Officers Maripily Clase, Suranjit Dey and Jermaine Hodge in Federal Court, for herself, her three children and their father.

"We're working on a project to document the nationwide impact of gun violence, and we need your help," explained the Huffington Post editorial collective in an e-mail to their "readers in Idaho." "If you or someone you know has ever been affected by gun violence, we want to hear your story."
Eagerly accepting their invitation, I sent them the following account of gun violence, which they will almost certainly decline to use.

The UN Declares War on Katanga -- Again
posted 04/02/2013, 1:03 AM (William Grigg) [Category: Tyranny/Police State]
Fifty-three years ago, the United Nations created a multinational military force to carry out "peacekeeping" operations in the Republic of the Congo at the request of socialist president Patrice Lumumba. Residents of a small, mineral-rich province called Katanga, not eager to be ruled by the Soviet-aligned leftist government, declared their independence under the leadership of pro-western president Moise Tshombe.
With the backing of both the U.S. and the Soviet Union, UN military ... (more) |
SWAT Raids Home Over Hydroponic Equipment Purchase, Finds Tomatoes and Squash
posted 04/01/2013, 12:14 AM (Activist Post) [Category: Tyranny/Police State]
Did you know that buying hydroponic growing equipment is now being used as probable cause for the government to raid your house?
Neither did Bob and Addie Harte, a Kansas couple who were raided by SWAT without a warrant last April because the authorities took notice of their purchase of indoor gardening items.
The illegal raid turned up "just six plants -- three tomato plants, one melon plant and two butternut squash plants -- growing in the basement", and now the ... (more) |

Welcome to Sulphur Springs, Where the Police Chief is a Murderer
posted 03/28/2013, 10:49 PM (William Norman Grigg) [Category: Tyranny/Police State]
Like many third-world countries, Arkansas is a beautiful place inhabited by lovely people who are burdened with an extravagantly corrupt ruling class. This helps explain, but by no means does it justify, the fact that the minuscule town of Sulphur Springs, Arkansas now has a convicted killer as its police chief.
In January 2010, Coleman Brackney, at the time an officer in the department that menaces nearby Bella Vista, murdered a man named James Ahern following a high-speed c... (more) |
Why Are Cops Acting Like Soldiers?
posted 03/28/2013, 10:48 PM (Independent Institute) [Category: Tyranny/Police State]
From the early days of the United States to the post-Reconstruction era and beyond, Americans viewed the separation of the military from law enforcement as essential for the health of the republic. In recent years, however, the line between the police and the military has become increasingly blurred, with police departments across the United States employing "no knock" raids and other military-style tactics once considered off limits. What has caused this alarming trend?

Groups Balk at Paying $1.3 Million Cop Killer Reward
posted 03/27/2013, 11:00 PM (ABC News) [Category: Tyranny/Police State] When ex-cop Christopher Dorner was hunting down Los Angeles police and their families, more than $1 million in reward money was raised for help in his capture and conviction.
Now that there are two sets of claims to the reward money, the groups that pledged the money are balking at paying because Dorner wasn’t captured or convicted. He died Feb. 12 when he shot himself in the head after being cornered by police and the subsequent gunbattle set fire to the house where he was barric... Repeal the "War on Terror"
posted 03/26/2013, 11:20 PM (Will Grigg) [Category: Tyranny/Police State] When Congress approved the post-911 “Authorization for Use of Military Force” on September 14, 2001, Democratic Congresswoman Barbara Lee of California was the only member of the House to vote against it. In her address on the House floor explaining her vote, Rep. Lee warned that the measure would be used as an open-ended declaration of war against anybody the president – any president – designated an enemy.
More than a decade later, two administrations have vindicated Rep. Lee’s ... (more) |
As NYC Pot Busts Continue, New York Punts on Marijuana Reform
posted 03/24/2013, 9:30 PM (StoptheDrugWar.org) [Category: Tyranny/Police State] People -- almost all of them young people of color -- are being arrested at the rate of a thousand a week in New York City for marijuana possession "in public view," but although a legislative fix was in sight this week, the state's political establishment couldn't come to an agreement on it. Instead, the legislature is going on vacation.
The New York City "in public view" arrests violate the spirit of the Empire State's 1977 marijuana decriminalization law, which made possession... (more) |

Once again we are treated to a Youtube video of an out-of-control cop physically attacking a non-violent citizen only for the police department to say the incident will be "fully reviewed."
