|Not Worth the Paper It's Printed On: Dems' Fantasy Executive Order an Admission Senate Bill Funds Abortion

Catholic Bishops, Others Reject Executive Order Scheme on Common Sense Legal Grounds that It Contradicts American System of Government
The American people are hopping mad about the Democrats' government takeover of health care, none the least that it will funnel their tax dollars to pay for abortion procedures. But having long refused to listen to the American people, Democratic leaders have been focusing on convincing their own self-described pro-life members that this bill somehow isn't a massive implementation of taxpayer-funded abortion.
Now Democratic leaders are working up an executive order on the matter for the President to sign and claiming it will override the very legislation they are trying to enact. This plan is a welcome admission from the President and Speaker that the bill will, in fact, fund abortion procedures with tax dollars. But rather than fixing this fatally-flawed bill, this scheme is simply an attempt by Democratic leaders to provide political cover for wavering Democrats who profess to be pro-life. Because our constitution is pretty clear, however, about which branch of government writes laws, this new half-baked plan isn't holding water with the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops:
"The statutory mandate construed by the courts would override any executive order or regulation. This is the unanimous view of our legal advisors and of the experts we have consulted on abortion jurisprudence. Only a change in the law enacted by Congress, not an executive order, can begin to address this very serious problem in the legislation." (Richard Doerflinger, U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops)
It's quite simple actually. The U.S. Constitution declares that the legislative branch writes the laws of the land. And the law of the land supersedes any executive action. No executive order or regulatory policy can override a statutory mandate, or as the Na... (more)

GOP Leader: "Make no mistake, a 'yes' vote on the Democrats' health care bill is a vote for taxpayer-funded abortions."
House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on a potential Executive Order from the White House on abortion:

The White House and anti-abortion Democrats have reached an agreement to defuse the controversy over abortion in the health reform bill — planning a series of steps that will secure the support of Michigan Rep. Bart Stupak and other Democrats to give party leaders the votes they need to pass reform, sources tell POLITICO.
Under the agreement, President Barack Obama would sign an executive order ensuring that no federal funding will go to pay for abortion under the health reform pl... (more)

Well, not exactly a “capital” crime (I’m just being my usual provocative self), but it is a crime in New Jersey. By now, many of you have heard the story about the teenage idiot who got a hold of the intercom in a Walmart store in New Jersey and, thinking he was being “cute,” made an announcement saying to the effect that all Black people must leave* the store immediately. He has been arrested by the New Jersey Thought Police on... (more)

"The truth will set you free." Until people realize that our government manufactures crises as a pretext to control the population nothing can ever change and no real debate can ever be had. If you buy into the premise there are an endless series of boogeymen looking to "kill us for our freedoms" then you've bought the con, whether it be Al-CIA-da, "global warming" erm, "climate change", "too big to fail", "a coming health care crisis", it doesn't matter. If you believe in their fake boogeymen the debate becomes "what do we do about it," and no matter what freedom loses. The only option is to say "have the courage to do nothing", but even that empowers the official lie. - Chris
