Clemency for Wall Street Criminals, Prison for the Powerless posted 07/02/2010, 11:27 PM (William Norman Grigg)

"Who the hell are these people?"

"I don't know. I used to say they were the same ones we've always had to deal with. Same ones my granddaddy had to deal with. Back then they was russlin' cattle. Now they're running dope. I ain't sure we've seen these people before. Their kind. I don't know what to do about 'em even. If you killed 'em all they'd have to build an annex on to hell."

- Sheriff Bell ponders the bloody handiwork of a high-echelon criminal syndicate in Cormac McCarthy's novel No Country for Old Men.

Johnny Gaskins of Raleigh, North Carolina faces a 30-year prison term – an effective life sentence – for the supposed crime of depositing $450,000 in his own bank account. The corporate leaders of Wachovia Bank, a criminal syndicate once headquartered in the same state, won't face prosecution despite admissions that they laundered hundreds of billions of dollars on behalf of Mexican narcotics cartels.

Wachovia was deemed "too big to fail," and thus too important to prosecute. In our system, mercy is reserved exclusively for the powerful and corrupt, and Johnny Gaskins – a criminal defense attorney – was neither.

Gaskins had earned his money legitimately. As a dutiful tax victim, he reported his income to the criminal predators running the IRS. His purported offense was to make numerous deposits in amounts just under the $10,000 threshold at which banks are required to report to the IRS under the Bank Secrecy Act of 1970.

[Category: Cover-Up/Deceptions]
A week after a Washington Post blogger was forced to resign, in part, because conservatives felt that the paper wasn’t properly labeling his political ideology, an examination of West Wing payroll statistics by RAW STORY reveals that the Post is failing to disclose another blogger’s connection to the White House.

The Post’s Ed O’Keefe reports Friday, “More than 460 White House employ

The Anti-Educational Effects of Public Schools posted 07/02/2010, 11:27 PM (Gennady Stolyarov II)
[Category: Commentary]
With so many state governments' budgets now under severe strain, there are serious discussions throughout the country about whether or not to cut state funding to public education — an expenditure that, in some states, consumes more than half the budget. Unfortunately, because of extensive resistance by teachers' unions and other parties with a vested interest in the status quo, fundamental changes to the system will be fought every step of the way. At the same time, however, it is useful to ack... (more)

Public School Educators: Most Are a Sorry Lot posted 07/02/2010, 11:27 PM (Jeremiah Dyke)
[Category: Commentary]
Well, my tenure with public education is through, and I would be a sorry libertarian if I didn’t reflect upon the state of affairs I’ve seen while teaching seventh grade mathematics. As a disclaimer, credit is not without due. There are heroes in our schools who deserve the tip of our hat. They are talented individuals who enjoy their job and bring countless smiles to the little faces that walk into their classroom.

Of course, the dilemma is that any public school te

Police secretly plant GPS on man's truck without warrant to catch him poaching posted 07/02/2010, 11:27 PM (Associated Press)
[Category: Big Brother/Orwellian]
OGDEN, Utah (AP) -- A Utah man has pleaded no contest to bobcat poaching after authorities secretly installed a GPS on his truck to track his movements.

The 42-year-old North Ogden man, Jared Evans Beal, says police had no right to venture on his property without a warrant to install the GPS device.

The Utah Court of Appeals, however, refused to hear that complaint.

Beal pleaded no contest on last month to four poaching charges as prosecutors dropped

Americans Not Sure on Financial Reform Bill, But Don’t Think Some Banks are Too Big to Fail posted 07/02/2010, 11:27 PM (Rasmussen Reports)
[Category: Economy]
Americans don't have strong feelings one way or the other about a financial reform bill working its way through Congress. But most reject the notion that some banks are too big to fail and prefer more competition over more regulation.

A new Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that a plurality (44%) of Adults nationwide don't have an opinion one way or the other on the financial reform effort. The rest are fairly evenly divided between those who favor (25%) and oppo

Nothing could be better for the economy than letting the big corporate welfare pimp banks fail. People give their money to companies whose products they want more of, that helps both them get the products they want and the company produce more products they want for cheaper.

The idea stealing money from productive and free people to give to some corrupt bank or some military industrial complex corporation helps "stimulate" the economy is a sick joke.

The biggest economic stimulation is to get rid of the middleman between you and the companies you like. Get the parasitic government to stop robbing them of half their income through taxes, you'd see prices across the board fall dramatically. - Chris

29% Say Stimulus Plan Helped the Economy, 43% Say It Hurt posted 07/02/2010, 11:27 PM (Rasmussen Reports)
[Category: Economy]
Just 25% of voters nationwide believe the economic stimulus package created jobs and voters are counting on decisions made by business owners more than government officials to create the jobs needed by the nation.

Those results come from a Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey conducted the night before release of the government report on job creation in June. That report showed the unemployment rate falling to 9.5% but also showed that just 83,000 private sector jobs were c

Amidst strong criticism of governments’ responses to the swine flu H1N1 hysteria, nearly half of the more than 150 million swine flu vaccines purchased by the feds for the American public will be incinerated after starting to expire earlier this week.

Forty million shots — worth more than $250 million — expired Wednesday and are already marked for destruction. A government estimate cited in various

The long-term future of proxy server Scroogle is seriously in doubt, according to operator Daniel Brandt. Scroogle has scraped Google pages since 2002 by piping results through an anonymizing server. By using the service surfers could remain anonymous, but more importantly use Google without the compulsory 40-year cookie.

The site used an obscure Google search page, originally designed for the IE 6 side bar, which had remained unchanged until this year.

Scientists Admit Chemtrails Are Creating Artificial Clouds posted 07/02/2010, 11:18 PM (Prison Planet)

Scientists now admit that emissions from aircraft are forming artificial clouds that block out the sun, precisely what geoengineering advocates like top eugenicist and White House science advisor John P. Holdren have called for, but the article tries to insinuate that the effect is caused by natural “vapours,” when in reality it can be attributed to chemtrails that contain substances harmful to humans.

“The phenomenon occurs when aircraft fly above 25,000ft, where the air te

Tan lovers who get their golden glow from a tanning bed will now pay more for that luxury at a salon. There is now a 10-percent tax to use equipment containing at least one U.V. lamp. This is part of the Obama Administration’s health care reform law, which shifts the five-percent tax on Botox and elective cosmetic surgeries to the indoor tanning industry. Doctors who use the lights for medical purposed are exempt from the tax.

But, local salon owners worry about how this new ta

Clinton and Obama today both defended Byrd’s past association with the Klan in the 1940s.
