Fieger: New autopsy suggests cover-up, shows Aiyana shot in head

 Armed with diagrams and his own autopsy report, attorney Geoffrey Fieger alleged an all-out cover-up by Detroit police in last month's shooting death of 7-year-old Aiyana Stanley-Jones.
Fieger released an autopsy by Macomb County Medical Examiner Daniel Spitz, whom Fieger retained, that shows Aiyana was shot through the top of the head, not the neck as previously reported.
On Tuesday, a spokesman for the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office confirmed Aiyana's death certificate was changed after a conversation with Spitz.
Detroit police officials did not comment Tuesday. But Fieger challenged the officers involved in the May 16 shooting on the city's east side to come forward "and tell the truth."
Fieger said Spitz's report also bolsters his theory that Officer Joseph Weekley shot Aiyana from an open front door, rather than accidentally when he made contact with the girl's grandmother inside, as police said.
David Balash, a retired firearms examiner for the Michigan State Police, was surprised by the findings.
"A bullet entering the top of the head is not something you can miss," he said of the change in the death certificate.

An independent investigation has determined a Cabarrus County sheriff's deputy was within the law when he shot and killed a pit bull in a Concord neighborhood last month. The incident sparked public outrage. The dog's owners are threatening a lawsuit.
The Cabarrus County Sheriff has already looked into the shooting incident and determined his deputy acted legally when he shot a pit bull known as "Bella."

Tybee police 'apologetic' for Tasing autistic teen

 Police on Tybee Island issued a careful apology Monday for wounds an autistic teenager suffered when officers Tased and threw him to the ground outside a bar Friday night.
Yet Police Chief James Price starkly defended those officers' actions, saying the teen, Clifford Grevemberg, appeared intoxicated and police were unaware of his medical condition.
Price also cited the "rowdy, raucous" atmosphere that surrounded the Beach Bum Parade that evening on Tybee.

Pulaski Police Officers Punished After Arresting Doctor En Route to Delivery

 PULASKI, Tenn. - Two Pulaski Police officers involved with the arrest of Doctor Terry Wynn on May 5 have been suspended. Officer Chad Estes was suspended without pay for 30 calendar days. Sergeant Justin Young was suspended without pay for 7 calendar days.
"Simply put, they did not weigh the actions of Doctor Wynn versus the immediate medical attention that was needed for her patient," Police Chief John Dickey told the Board of Mayor and Alderman.

Santa Fe police detective charged with DWI; Allowed to walk due to 'safety concerns'

State police charged a Santa Fe police detective with aggravated drunken driving over the holiday weekend, a spokesman said Tuesday.
Detective James Vigil, 29, was pulled over on N.M. 599 just after 2 a.m. Saturday when a state police officer saw his sport-utility vehicle weaving, Lt. Eric Garcia said. The officer stopped the black Nissan and smelled alcohol when he spoke to Vigil, Garcia said.

The Supreme Court says that one can no longer simply remain silent to avoid incriminating one’s self. Now, one has to actually state that one wishes to invoke his Fifth Amendment rights in order to stop a police interrogation. CA Assembly Bans Open Carry

SACRAMENTO -- The so-called open-carry movement took a hit Tuesday when the state Assembly approved a bill 45-25 that would forbid anyone from openly carrying an unloaded handgun. It now moves to the Senate.
The measure by Assemblywoman Lori Saldaña, D-San Diego, came in response to advocates who have been toting unloaded pistols in public in an attempt to expand Second Amendment gun rights.

Man shot with Taser in fight at border dies

SAN DIEGO — A man who died after being shot with a Taser stun gun Friday night by federal border officers had lived in the U.S. for 27 years, had five children and worked in construction, his wife said.
Maria Puga, the wife of Anastacio Hernandez Rojas, said Tuesday that she was too distraught to comment further.

Polar bears not at risk: Nunavut

 The Nunavut government does not think the polar bear should be classified as a species of special concern under the federal Species at Risk Act, says territorial Environment Minister Daniel Shewchuk.
Shewchuk said there is no clear evidence to support assigning that status to the polar bear despite recommendations to the contrary by Environment Canada and a federal scientific panel.
