Capitol Hill aides are hoping a disaster will strike so Americans will start thinking their largely worthless jobs are actually needed.

As the longest government shutdown in American history lurches toward its fifth week, a grim but growing consensus has begun to emerge on Capitol Hill: There may be no way out of this mess until something disastrous happens.Literally no one cares.
That includes the temporarily furloughed government workers who are getting paid not to work.
Most everyone I've talked to says they'd prefer if it never reopened.
