Obama drew laughter after telling SXSW the United States is the "only advanced democracy in the world which makes it harder for people to vote." "You're laughing, but it's sad," he said. "We take enormous pride in the fact that we are the world's oldest, continuous democracy, and yet we systematically put up barriers and make it as hard as possible for citizens to vote." Obama went on to say it's easier to "order a pizza or a trip" in the US than it is to vote. Apparently, he feels voting should require literally no effort. The only so-called "barriers" to voting some states have are the reasonable requirements one have a photo ID and be a US citizen. Obama would prefer every state follow the lead of California and allow illegal immigrants to vote. |
