Police have a perception that they are heroic public figures, who die needlessly in the ‘war on cops’ to protect the weak and defenseless citizens they are sworn to protect and serve. In reality, police participate in a culture of violence that hurts those same people they are sworn to protect. So what is a hero anyway? Do heroes beat their wives or abuse their children? Do heroes participate in a culture of violence that preys on the weakest and poorest among us?
