Seattle Pig Cynthia Whitlatch was notified Monday that she faces termination over the false arrest of a 69-year-old man, who she accused of wielding a golf club as a weapon. An investigation into the arrest of William Wingate on July 9, 2014, revealed a collection of policy violations, including biased policing. The civilian director of the Office of Professional Accountability, Pierce Murphy, issued a statement: "The OPA conducted a thorough and objective investigation into the allegations of bias and improper conduct raised in this case, an investigation that has been certified by both me and the independent civilian OPA Auditor.Dashcam video of the confrontation was made public in January, and shows Cynthia Whitlatch telling Wingate, “You just swung that golf club at me” as he stands peacefully, using the club as a cane, not swinging the club whatsoever. Whitlatch also came under scrutiny when it was revealed that she made racially charged comments on her Facebook page relating to the uprising in Ferguson, Mo., after Michael Brown was shot and killed by the cowardly pig Darren Wilson. The OPA opened an investigation and Whitlatch was placed on paid leave. Wingate says he was using the golf club as a cane, on his daily 10-mile walk, when Whitlatch stopped him. The dashcam video shows Whitlatch pulling up alongside Wingate and ordering him to drop the golf club. In the video, Wingate denies doing anything wrong and refuses to drop the club. Wingate, a military veteran, was arrested and booked into jail for unlawful use of a weapon and obstructing a police officer. Prosecutors later dismissed the case. The police department apologized for the arrest and returned Wingate's golf club. Watch the dashcam video: The full unedited version of the dashcam video is available here. |
