The video above was sent to CopBlock.org via the submisson tab by Scott Marshall who was holding a sign warning people of an upcoming checkpoint. That’s when he realized that Officer Shair, of the PA State police, was attempting to tow his car that was parked on the side of the road and recorded the following video.

As you can see from the video, it seems that Shair was upset at Scott for CopBlocking the checkpoint and was attempting to punish him by towing his truck. Luckily for Scott, he knew to film the encounter, which means the officer had to be on his best behavior, and asked Shair some tough questions. Another thing pointed out in this video is something I mention often. That police officers do NOT know the law. As seen in the video, Scott asks Shair to state the law that he’s violating, Shair list off an ordinance, but it has nothing to do with what Scott is doing at that time. If this officer can’t explain, or cite, the law that Scott was breaking then what was he doing?

This was not the most egregious act by a police officer caught on video, but it’s a great example of exercising your rights. Scott wasn’t only attempting to help some unsuspecting motorist from having an encounter with police, but he also used his camera and knowledge to protect himself from this power hungry cop. If you’d like to expand your knowledge about police encounters visit the CopBlock.org Resources page. There you’ll find a number of tips from filming the police, filing Freedom of Information Request and much, much more. Don’t find yourself in a position where a cop is trying to punish you or is misunderstanding the law. Know your rights, exercise your rights, and become prepared. Sadly, more and more laws are passed each day. So, it’s only a matter of time before one of those laws affects your life.
