Winston-Salem Officer Under Investigation After Confrontation With Man Shooting Video

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Winston-Salem police are investigating an encounter between an officer and a man who was shooting video at the police department’s building.

The video was posted to YouTube on Sunday.

Police say the video was taped by a citizen, Richard Goins, and was a part of the national trend called “First Amendment Audit.”

Winston-Salem police described the First Amendment Audit as “a trend where citizens attract the attention of law enforcement or military security personnel to determine if those security personnel will infringe on their First Amendment rights.”

“It’s not against the law,” Goins told FOX 8. “They take your rights if you allow them to do that. So we go out and do a First Amendment audit to see what kind of reaction we’ll get.”
