The Solution to Poverty

Let’s say that North Korea follows what American liberals say is the solution to relieving poverty in a society. Let’s say that North Korea decides to wage war on poverty by taking money from the rich and giving it to the poor and by imposing tight controls over the economy to protect the poor.

Would those measures relieve poverty in North Korea?

The author of that article makes no real argument for North Korea's problems. It reads like advertising copy for policy makers to adopt more of the 'free trade' 'no government' 'no controls' 'become as rich as you like how you like' drivel that sees half the world starve. Who is to stop his noble entrepreneurs from bribing a local warlord to give him access to other people's resources? In Hornberger's world no-one is a crook, no-one has ill intentions, everyone just wants to help and do fair business. It's infantile nonsense.

Yeah, it's in no way infantile to think giving one group of people in society a total monopoly over all law, order, and all rule making as well as the final say in every dispute, including those involving itself, will fix all the problems in the world! And of course, such an organization would never get filled by the exact same "bad" people we intended it to be used against! If it does, (don't worry, I've been assured it won't) we just need to lobby those same "bad" people to enact "our" will! Who knew solving all the world's problems was so easy?!
