If Americans don't pay inflated prices for tomatoes, the terrorists have won. Via Reuters: U.S. tomato growers on Monday said they have formally asked the U.S. Commerce Department to tear up a pricing agreement with Mexican producers that they say has become "a charade."The "market reality" is that Mexican farmers are producing cheaper tomatoes than the U.S. U.S. consumers clearly prefer their tomatoes as demand for them has skyrocketed. Now, rather than compete on the market, the U.S. farmers want the U.S. government to meddle in the markets (even more than they already are) and force Mexican farmers to raise their prices, screwing American consumers in the process. This type of protectionism is not unique, Americans are paying inflated prices across the board due to government interventions just like this, industry after industry, from the RIAA/MPAA and their copyright monopolies, to U.S. farmers getting paid not to produce food, Americans are getting reamed by a crony fascist government that masquerades as our "protector." _ Chris runs the website InformationLiberation.com, you can read more of his writings here.
