We're from the government, we're here to steal your lunch. Nanny-state lunatics in Chicago have banned bringing homemade lunches to school, forcing all students to eat government sludge instead. The students are so angry, they're leading rallying cries demanding the right to bring their own lunch to school. The Chicago Tribune reports: Fernando Dominguez cut the figure of a young revolutionary leader during a recent lunch period at his elementary school. The article goes on to reveal how all the lunches are provided by a "private" company, Chartwells-Thompson, which directly profits from the policy. Any school that bans homemade lunches also puts more money in the pockets of the district's food provider, Chartwells-Thompson. The federal government pays the district for each free or reduced-price lunch taken, and the caterer receives a set fee from the district per lunch. While everyone is predictably against the policy, they managed to find one mentally deficient parent who is all for it. ...parent Miguel Medina said he thinks the "no home lunch policy" is a good one. "The school food is very healthy," he said, "and when they bring the food from home, there is no control over the food."Really? There is no control over the food students bring from home? The reality is there is no control over the food the school provides, you get whatever slop some bureaucrats decide is best. There's not even an option not to subsidize the school, as you also have "no control over" whether or not to pay the state property taxes. It's difficult to say whether or not this is being done with nanny-state "protect you from yourself" intentions, or just as a subsidy for some crony-capitalist "private" company. Either way, it's criminal. |
