i don't know...i haven't looked too much into him, but for some reason i wouldn't be surprised if it was released in future that he was working for MI5 or MI6 - that's what my intuition says.

The thing is, reading any philosophers with constructed theories is dangerous when one doesn't yet know how to think for oneself. The meanings are guided by one's assumptions and adapted thoughts. That's why Listen, Little Man is so different. There's no theory, just a man's thoughts, and that's why it can help people directly.

Watts was hugely influential in the 60's yet these days he has been almost completely written out of history, that's one way you can be sure he is the real deal. It's very much the same story as Wilhelm. He was the source of so much greatness and yet he was basically written out of history, his philosophy bastardized, or in Wilhelm's case 'sanitized', and all his accomplishments repackaged by 'mainstream' hacks who turned it into something it's not.

i see - maybe my impression is wrong, it's just that i've been running into his name very often - and like i said, i haven't actually read anything by him, only about him. Philosophy used to be my favourite pastime until i started thinking for myself, and i've developed a sort of allergy to names like Plato and Nietzsche since i really understood what they were about - in truth they got in the way of my own development for a long time as i had too much fun playing around with their ideas to actually step back and see for myself - and thus, by extension, to people like Alan Watts, too.
