Hypocrite O'Reilly outraged at other's "selective outrage"

Last night's Talking Points Memo had Bill O'Reilly in a royal snit about the worldwide protests and condemnations inflamed by Israel's bombing of a building in Qana Lebanon, killing some 60 people including 37 children. Relying once again on the "hate" card, O'Reilly says it is hatred and not compassion that drives people out to protest the "mistake" that killed the women and children, and a desire to to advance the cause of Islamic fascism. He habitually ascribes dark motives to anyone who behaves, speaks, or thinks differently than he does, and FOX gives him an editorial platform from which to bash.

O'Reilly's complaint du jour is that people are outraged at this slaughter of innocents but, he claims, there is "rarely" such an outcry when the terrorists do horrible things.

"However, isn't it interesting that the Islamic fascists never make a mistake?

We rarely see worldwide demonstrations condemning their consistently barbaric behavior. In violation of a U.N. mandate, Hezbollah has fired thousands of missiles targeting civilians into Israeli cities. Have you seen many demonstrations against that?

How about after 9/11? Did you see mass demonstrations condemning Al Qaeda? Did you see protests when those savages beheaded civilians on videotape?

The answer is no. The terrorists can do pretty much anything without the world condemning them. Want more?

Iran is defying the United Nations on nuclear weapons. Any demonstrations? Muslims are slaughtering each other inside Iraq. Any protests? "

Hezbollah never said its tactics and resulting deaths were mistakes, and people around the world deplore those tactics. We would have protest fatigue (and be unemployed) if we were out every day there was a war atrocity. When Israel shows off its might and superior firepower, crying victim while pounding the enemy and anyone unfortunate enough to be in the way, the sympathy of the world shifts to the innocent victims. We've seen this before in Iraq, as we lost the sympathies and goodwill of the world by recklessly and thoroughly destroying that entire country.

Incidentally, Bill, there were plenty of demonstrations of outrage and grief and sympathy after 9/11 - do you forget? And protests of the US war in Iraq are regularly diminished, mocked, or dismissed on FOX.

The king of selective outrage now wears the king of hypocrisy crown too. He regularly picks a target and focuses all his indignation on a judge, a sentence, a Democrat, an outspoken celebrity, while ignoring thousands of others who are equally or more deserving of his ire. If Mel Gibson was a liberal you can bet your sweet bippy he'd be the subject of the TPM for several days running, but as a fellow conservative and Catholic, it's hands off.

His selective outrage at selective outrage is a farce.
